2012 was a great year for music, but here’s hoping 2013 will be even better. Here are Montlake Music’s favorite songs of 2012
10. Deadmau5 – The Veldt (Tommy Trash Remix)
After hearing Wolfgang Gartner drop this in his famous Sasquatch set, I knew this was going to be huge. Tommy Trash blew up this past year, and this song was s a big reason why. Born to be played on festival speakers, this is a song will always bring me back to Summer 2012
9. Sol – Paint
Seattle’s prince gave us the first truly great album of 2012 and established himself as our hometown hero. If I could feature his entire body of work here, I would, but for brevity’s sake, I give you my favorite song off the album
8. Hardwell – Spaceman
Spaceman shot Hardwell into the upper stratosphere of DJs and Producers. One of our most played tracks of the year, it will be remembered as one of the best drops in recent memory.
7. Dada Life – Feed the Dada
Dada Life unleashed their first full length album in 2012 and exposed the world to their champagne popping, banana slinging attitude. This song deserves to be on here because of its sheer volume. Can’t tell you how many times we fed the Dada this year.
6. 5 & a Dime – Breaking Spring
My favorite mashup of the year – combining all of our guilty pleasures into one insanely catchy package. Plus, no best of 2012 list can be complete without some version of “Call Me Maybe”
5. Tyga – Make it Nasty
Tyga wins our Frat Song of the year award. Combined with video on par with porn, we can’t help but revel in the ignorance and filthy swag that is “Make it Nasty”
4. Porter Robinson – Language
I’m convinced that this song will never get old. An electro masterpiece and Porter’s career defining track, this is the most emotional dance song I’ve heard to date. Featured at every important festival in the world by every important DJ, this song will always have a special place in my heart.
3. Hoodie Allen – No Interruption
Hoodie’s our boy and always will be. No Interruption had us singing along for the better part of the year. You’d be hard pressed to find a catchier, more well loved song than this.
2. Zedd – Spectrum
If 2012 was known for one dance song, it would be Spectrum. More remixes than you can count (all of them good), unforgettable vocals, and classic Zedd-step, this is a show-stopper that we won’t soon forget.
1. Macklemore – Thrift Shop
Unanimously #1 in play count, quite possibly the greatest music video of ALL TIME, and the star track off the consensus album of the year, there’s nothing not to love about “Thrift Shop” – our #1 song of 2012 by a mile. This is a classic that we’ll be bumping deep into our lives.
