Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Hoodie Allen in concert. The show was awesome in every way, and Hoodie absolutely killed it, dropping all of his best stuff and even mixing in covers of Kayne’s “Stronger” and Big Sean’s “Dance (Ass).” One of the things that caught my attention even more though, was his opener, Shelton Harris. No one knew who he was, but he dropped some pretty impressive stuff. One song in particular was “Can You Hear Me Now” – a freestyle over Pretty Lights’ “Finally Moving.” You can’t really go wrong covering Finally Moving, but Shelton Harris does it with flow and style that is beyond the typical no-name, 19 year old rapper. Look out for Shelton Harris, the future of Northwest Hip Hop is here.
